We did Taxi Ride as a last minute kind of thing. Brian gave me a call and said 'Dude, you want to test that new camera of yours? I got an idea..."
Seems Sony Music was throwing a contest, TaxiVision: "Create a video for Tori Amos' song Taxi Ride and send it on in--Tori will watch every one of them."
Brian decided we would enter and at least give Tori something to look at that we made as a way of saying Hey, thanks for your music. I like Tori, have one of her CDs--but Bri is a fanatic so I wanted to say yes--he had that 'I will go insane if I can't give Tori something I touched' look on his face. I really had no choice.
We cast it with a couple of good friends of mine, Martin Lain and Laura Ballard and we auditioned/cast Sarah Poynter. They wound up working out much better than we could have hopd for--we shot it in two days with the help of the Three Henchmen, (Toby, Scott and Ryan) who came in for the food, folks and fun.
We were judged.
Bri got a message on his answering machine late one night from Sony to give them a call. He wondered if it was a prank; when he called New York and got the Sony answering service he realized that no, it's no joke, and became quite giddy. I got an email: CALL ME.
We wound up in the top nine, were placed on the Sony website for a week and walked away thinking Y'know, this is a good sign...
You'll notice Sarah Poynter is also in 40 Year Scotch.
We decided we need to use her in everything we do.
Don't tell her, though; she might get all embarrassed.
